7 Days Calving Of Wildebeest Migration at Ndutu

On this 7 Days Calving Of Wildebeest Migration at Ndutu, Tanzania’s winter months lead us to the southern part of the magnificent southern and central parts of Serengeti as we track Nature’s most spectacular annual ritual, the Great Migration. Nothing compares with this, and our daily program will be adjusted if necessary to ensure that we see the animals at their very best, at their most numerous. From Arusha, where you will have spent the night, our journey takes us first to fascinating Ndutu and then Serengeti National Park. As the migration is the highlight of the trip, we will focus strongly in these two locations on this aspect of Tanzania’s wildlife, with expert explanations from your driver-guide. The world’s biggest movement of animals is often the highlight of people’s lives, never mind the highlight of their safari! After absorbing all the excitement that Serengeti’s wildlife can provide, we change scenery to visit stunning Ngorongoro crater, another incredible but totally different venue for the breathtaking animals of Tanzania. You will take away enough memories to last a lifetime

DAY 1: KILIMANJARO INTER. AIRPORT TO ARUSHA.

Arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by one of our experienced driver guides, ready to greet and escort you to Arusha and your chosen hotel. He will introduce you to this wonderful city and country.

After your long flight, you will be pleased to discover that Arusha – the undisputed ‘safari capital’ of East Africa-is perched at 1400 meters above sea level, keeping the temperatures and humidity relatively low. All around this important city are some of Tanzania’s greatest delights. Mount Meru towers above Arusha, while even distant Kilimanjaro can be seen on a clear day. Arusha provides the ideal starting-point for safari-lovers, within reach of Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater.

The city even has its own natural attraction, Arusha National Park, close by. Named after the Wa-arusha residents of the town, this busy agricultural, administrative and tourist centre is the perfect place to relax after a long journey and before you set off on safari, the holiday of a lifetime. Welcome to Arusha and welcome to Tanzania!

Accommodation: Silver Palm Hotel

Meal Plan: Bed and Breakfast

DAY 2: ARUSHA – NGORONGORO CRATER – NDUTU.

After breakfast at the lodge do we depart to Ngorongoro Crater. We will descend over 600 meters into the crater to view wildlife for a half days safari tour. Supported by a year round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro National Park supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park, is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. We will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, which is one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos and other water birds can usually been seen here. After lunch we head towards the Ndutu area via the beautiful high lying land of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area  heading to Ndutu.

Accommodation: Ndutu Heritage Camp.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Picnic lunch box and Dinner

DAY 3: NDUTU

Having had a taster the previous afternoon, today you have the whole day ahead of you in the Ndutu area, spotting all varieties of wildlife ‘on the move’ with your expert driver-guide. Each day is different here, but we focus of course on the Great Migration, that unique natural wonder which involves a cast of breathtaking numbers, literally hundreds of thousands of animals as they make their annual journey across the plains.

Zebra and wildebeest are the most numerous of the migrating animals here, grazing on the short-grass plains of the Southern Serengeti and the northern part of the Ngorongoro Conservation area. But your driver-guide will also be on the lookout for other wildlife, too, using his expertise and ‘eagle-eyes’ to try to find elephant, lions, buffalo, leopard and cheetah – just some of the many, many species you will encounter in this stunning place.

At the end of the afternoon, it’s back to your accommodation for a cool drink, some relaxation, a delicious dinner and the chance to discuss what you’ve seen during the day’s safari… as well as to check your priceless photos.

Accommodation: Ndutu Heritage Camp.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Picnic lunch box and Dinner

DAY 4: NDUTU – CENTRAL SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Today our journey continues as we head from the edge of the Serengeti into its very heart…but not before we seize a final opportunity for a morning game drive around Ndutu, where we are sure to see something new. But now Serengeti beckons, and so we continue to head north and west into what is surely the world’s greatest park.

At times this unsurpassable place is home to over 1.6 million herbivores and the thousands of predators who stalk them. Their fascinating habits and habitats are sure to provoke questions, so do ask your driver-guide to explain the amazing creatures you see all around you. At night, back at your accommodation, the sights, sounds and smells of Africa will continue to enchant you on this wilderness adventure.

Accommodation: Serengeti Serengeti Heritage Logde.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Picnic lunch box and Dinner.

DAY 5: CENTRAL SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK.

Waking up in the Serengeti is something really special. Sights, sounds and smells of Africa are all around us, and ahead is a full day of adventure in the world’s most famous national park. After breakfast, we start today with the morning section of our game drive in Serengeti National Park, marvelling at the stunning scenery, ever changing light and always entertaining wildlife, all explained to you by your expert driver-guide.

After our picnic lunch, we set off again, searching for wildlife in this awe-inspiring park. Serengeti’s wonders evolve subtly as the day progresses. The myriad animals and birds are the ‘stars of the show’ and Nature’s dramas can unfold at any time. Of course, the animals don’t work to any schedule, so we may find lion or leopard, elephant and zebra, cheetah and antelope at any time on our drives. At the end of the afternoon, we return to the camp for dinner and some much needed rest.

Note : For those who have booked the Balloon Safari for today, you will be picked up from the camp at 05.00 hours for a 06.00 hours departure. If you wish to book balloon safari, please let us know in advance, The price is $545 per person. After your 60 – 90 minute (depending on wind condition) aerial adventure, experience bush breakfast and champagne, thereafter your driver guide will pick you up for your full-day game drive.

Highly recommended! I had the pleasure of spending a week on Kilimanjaro with the most friendly, supportive and welcoming team imaginable. From arrival to departure, we felt very well taken care of by both the trekking team led by guide Shambani and Charles’ team in Arusha. I highly recommend Maasai African Guides to anyone interested in taking up the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro or looking to explore the Arusha area.

Charles - amazing guide and person Charles was our driver and guide at our 30th anniversary 10 days trip to Tanzania. He is experienced, reliable, knowledgeable, a pleasant-mannered person, great to have conversations with. A rare combination of a field man and a certified tour guide. Took care of us from the moment we arrived until returning to the airport at the end of the trip. Patiently answered all our questions (and we had a lot...). Charles was highly motivated to find animals and bring us to them up close, to arrive at the right moment to the great Gnu crossing the Mara River and in general to respond to every request we had. Highly recommended😁
